5 Things to Know for effective teleworking

Well with the COVID-19 pandemic a lot more
people are being asked to telework and this creates a number of challenges. Nonetheless, there are certain key things
that apply in all cases perhaps a little bit more so now. The first is management support from top management all the way down to the frontline supervisor. Absolutely key to effective telework. Second; appropriate tools and training. Essential for staying connected with the colleagues
in the organization. The appropriate apps, adequate tech support, and training for both teleworkers and managers. You also need clear expectations from the
front about what the results should be what the condition should be what times workers can be contacted or shouldn’t be contacted. All these need to be clarified upfront. Fourth, you need time sovereignty. You need to give workers the ability to
work in the times and the places that are most convenient for them, so they can be as productive as possible. Fifth, everyone needs their own individual
boundary management strategy. These include various mechanisms for ensuring that you can maintain a boundary between paid work and personal life, such as dedicated workspaces especially if there’s more than one person for example in the house that’s trying to telework. This is essential. But at the same time you need to be able to
disconnect from work. You need to be able to turn off that connectivity
and actually take time to rest and relax. Finally there is trust. This is the glue that brings it all together. You need trust between the teleworker and
the manager, and all of the colleagues and together that can lead to an effective teleworking strategy.
